"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." ~ Max Planck

Habitual thoughts become beliefs and those beliefs become your reality.
Notice what you're thinking...
"My life would be awesome if it weren't for this one thing."
"What's the big deal? What's my problem, my life is nearly perfect? I have so much to appreciate in my life."
"No matter what I do, I can't seem to move past this."
"I'm doing everything right, what am I missing?"
You optimistically commit to letting go and moving on, but it seems to offer only temporary relief from the pain, you can't quite find the momentum to keep the optimism alive.
You notice that you only keep the promises you make to others, but are too tired to keep the ones you make to yourself.
When you step back and look at the big picture, you see the parts of yourself you do not like. You get caught up in the painful cycle of depression, anxiety, fear of lack and doubt of your worthiness.
The feeling of hopelessness sets in and the cycle continues...
